yummy mummy

It comes only once a year, from 1st to 17th sept, (i think they used to come more often in the past)..the buffet that any food-lover will know is worth waiting for!
Thanks Mummy for bringing me to try it out.. it's my first time & definitely not my last..Actually i'm gonna start marking it down on my calendar so i won't miss it every year!
According to Mum, who's been going almost every year since this authentic buffet started in 1986, it used to be alot more 'hawker-style' and crowded, compared to the newly renovated White Rose Cafe, which actually looks kinda chic & more like a place for high-tea. Think my mum prefered the noiser but cosier version..More qi fen!
Nonetheless the food was CAN'T-GET-ENOUGH good! We tried everything, almost.. and i can't say which is my favourite cos they're all uniquely prepared by specialty chefs from Penang! Yup i heard that York Hotel flies in the Penang hawkers themselves!
Here goes..welcome a world where calorie counting is not advisable!
Spicy cuttle fish kangkong..Mummy's favourite. I swear i saw her face light up like a delighted kid!! For that, i really wish someone could tell me where i can get good cuttlefish kangkong so i can see that face everyday!=)Char Kuay Teow..This was the first dish mummy made me try. I usually don't eat fried kuay teow since "cellulite is its main ingredient"..But i was sold when i took my first bite! i think it would be possible to finish a whole wok of it--cockles and all! Hahaha..but there were more dishes to try..

Penang laksa..Yesh maam and sir, it's got the sourish oomphh so unique to penang laksa! *slurp*

Oyster omelette..'or luak'..This mini stall was hiding in a corner of its own, away from the rest. But it's not to be missed! Sorry dear, i know you absolutely love this and i did think of 'da-paoing'..But no one 'da-pao' at buffets i think?

Prawn Mee. Add in the fried lard pieces and you're in for a good time! *slurp again*

Ban Chang Kueh..doesn't look fantastic but take a bite into this crispy fold of peanut paste and you'll realise: never judge a ban chang kueh from its outside!:)

How better to end off an intensely satisfying meal but with ice kachang (my favourite dessert ever) and ice chendol!?! I always pay 50cents more and ask for more red bean ('jia hong dou') so i was quite skeptical this ice kachang used kidney beans insead of red beans..But now i think i'm gonna pay $1 more and ask to 'jia hong dou and kidney beans'! ;)
