swanky sunday brunch

PS Cafe, Harding Road
with my dear girl pal Lijing!

Haha this is my 4th or 5th visit to PS cafe but it's very different cos i haven't been for their brunches before..And it was a very nice change! The atmosphere was more laid-back & relaxed, with people bringing their families (young & old). Haha..and what a small world, i met at least 2 people from the medical fraternity there.
Hey Lijing babe we don't do this often but it was FUN! Had a great time just soaking in the chill-out atmosphere, sunshiny day & good hearty breakfast/lunch!

eat all you can

Straits Kitchen @ Hyatt
Had a fantastic dinner with a few of my cousins at this really awesome restuarant at Hyatt Hotel. Admittedly kinda pricey for local food but sooo worth it, especially if you're hungry. Maybe go to the gym/skip lunch (like what my cousin Agnes did before dinner)..or just cave in, indulge and hope your body's digestive system is not working properly--as if.

Also the layout of the restaurant is very clean, sleek & trendy..a definite match for its famous cousin mezza9 upstairs! It's definitely a good place to savour hawker food in style.

Here's a review i found from the economist.com website:

'For a taste of local cooking, try the lively buffet restaurant in the Grand Hyatt hotel. This is Singapore's most elegant spot to sample local cuisine. Straits Kitchen serves everything from Malay specialities to Chinese dishes. Those in the know go first to the Malay stall for a few sticks of satay and a grilled stingray, then join the queue at the Chinese stall for a plate of Hainanese chicken-rice and an oyster omelette. The best desserts are at the Indian stall, which serves fluffy pancakes, creamy egg tarts and a bowl of bubur cha-cha, a delicious concoction of sweet potato, yam, tapioca jelly and coconut milk. Superb.'

I totally agree with the review! Plus MUST try the roti prata with curry..esp the one with egg & cheese! As good as Jalan Kayu's i dare say! (but then again i'm no prata expert). And of course, the dessert stall where you can get cold, sweet chendol & ice kachang was my favourite(the guy was VERY generous with his red beans!!yay.)

Look at the dessert spread! It's enough to kick my salivary glands into secretion! Haha.

The chicken rice stall..Their hainanese chicken rice is supposed to be pretty darn good!
The satay stall..haha we wiped out all the beef, mutton, chicken satays..And kept going back for more! poor uncle had to furiously fan more & more satays for all the greedy blokes. Fruits fruits fruits! Too bad i didn't have room in my stomach for healthy stuff. haha--the desserts were too good. My cousins..it was great fun cos they're all super funny! And i enjoyed the heartfelt moments where you guys talked about the wonderful memories at Lorong Chuan..=)

aunty steph

need more wake-up-late days

It's been an absolutely restful week..was stuck in bed for most of the week..cos of a horrid cough & cold.. perhaps post SIP exhaustion, or maybe it was withdrawal..haha. But the long hours in bed made me realise how wonderful SLEEP can be..

Anyz had a birthday dinner celebration for one of my uncles at Crystal Jade, Takashimaya.. The newly renovated Crystal Jade is very glitzy & gilded, especially the wing of private rooms. The food, as usual, was great! Cystal Jade never fails to deliver GREAT food.. special mention goes to..
a special combination of cold meats--crabmeat, chicken, fatty pork. Very nicely done!

sharks fin soup. Kudos to them for serving a generous helping of fins in each bowl.. a stark contrast to other restaurants which serve miserable strands swimming in soup. the soon hock was smooth and fresh..i loooove fish head! the cheeks are the best!!
And my favourite part? Dessert of chocolate cake from Awfully Chocolate..And this terrific dessert which i could not have enough of..and HAD to ask for another one. Yes i'm such a sucker for all things sweet & cold. This dessert is special--served chilled in a nice wine glass: a base of black glutinous rice & chin chow, topped with yummy Haagen dazs ice cream (cookies & cream, raspberry, green tea) The final result was perfect!!

Anyways, i'm feeling very 'AUNTY' now..my cousins were all bringing their little toddlers out.. They were cooing away, saying, ' say hi to jiejie..No, Aunty..Stephanie!', 'This is stephanie, aunty lina's sister!' blah blah..I felt older & older each time i heard the 'A' word..

But kids are cute lah..tried to do develop assessment on them..but not too successful..1 yr 10 months but can run and speak 10-word sentences? never mind..

Couldn't help but snap pics of my nieces & nephews..

And a few of us cousins..The rest were busy playing with their kiddies. haa!Anyz just a quote i chanced upon..a little sad but true..

“Becoming the new feminine ideal requires just the right combination of insecurity, exercise, bulimia and surgery.”---Gary Trudeau, cartoonist
